QUEENSLAND PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk says she is no closer to announcing the election date, with the latest polling showing One Nation could hold the balance of power following the state election.

The latest Newspoll shows the Liberal National Party trailing federally, with experts tipping the numbers could affect the Queensland election.

Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls on Monday again ruled out any formal coalition with One Nation while saying he would work with whichever parliament Queenslanders elect.

But the premier was more firm on Tuesday, ruling out any deal with One Nation, even if it costs Labor the government.

“Because I will stand by my principles, I will stand up for common decency, I will also stand up for a unified Queensland, not a divided Queensland,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

Both Labor and the LNP have ramped up their campaigning in the last fortnight since the state budget was handed down, despite no official date being announced.

The election must be held by May next year, but is widely tipped to be called towards the end of this year.
