QUEENSLAND’S EMBATTLED Fraser Coast Regional Council is under investigation by the state’s corruption watchdog over allegations of corrupt conduct.

Responding to questions about the investigation on Wednesday, newly-appointed council chief executive, Ken Diehm, said he understood the investigation related to events that took place before his appointment and that of acting chief executive Ray Burton.

“We have not been advised of the nature of the investigation,” he told AAP.

“I’ve advised the CCC that my administration and I will fully co-operate with the investigation.”

A report tabled in parliament by Deputy Premier Jackie Trad last year revealed the state government had to intervene after dozens of complaints were filed against councillors.

More than 30 complaints were received by the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning between December 2015 and June 2016.

“Most staff wished to discuss broader organisational cultural issues. The common theme from these meetings was that there was a culture of control, favouritism, a lack of trust, a fear of reprisal, low morale and a toxic working environment,” it said.
