Queensland to Aim for Zero Net Emissions 2050 Target

IN A BREATHTAKING political stunt, Queensland Deputy Premier Jackie Trad has announced the state will have zero net emissions by 2050, under a plan to drive down carbon pollution announced by the state government.
Knowing neither she nor the current Labor Government will be around to deal with the consequences of her government’s plan, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the Queensland plan was necessary to help the nation implement the Paris Agreement.
“We know that the Turnbull LNP government at a federal level has failed to provide the national leadership that this country needs in order to meet our obligations under the Paris Agreement,” Ms Trad said.
“That’s why the Palaszczuk government is taking action now.”
Releasing two documents, the Climate Transition and Climate Adaptation strategies, Ms Trad said the government had mapped a way to achieving zero net emissions by 2050.
There would also be a target of reducing emissions by 30 per cent on 2005 levels by 2030.
