THE PARENTS of Maddilyn-Rose Stokes, who died from a heart attack in Brisbane’s north last month, have been charged with murder and torture.
It will be alleged the two-year-old, who would have turned three this month, suffered life-threatening burns to her lower back, buttocks and back of her legs all the way down to her feet.
Her parents had described the girl’s death to police as “a terrible accident” caused by “a moment’s inattention” after the toddler was found not breathing by paramedics at her family’s Northgate townhouse about 3.30pm on May 25.
It is understood the parents had called for an ambulance, with paramedics performing resuscitation on the toddler for about half an hour before taking her to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, but Maddilyn-Rose died that night.
Detective Inspector Tim Trezise said her parents did not seek help for several days and at the time they blamed her injuries on hot bath water.
