FORMER NSW player Brett Finch has identified a precedent he would use to get Jarrod Wallace off at the judiciary as the Origin debut of the likely Maroons selection goes on the line.
Wallace has been cited by the match review committee over a shoulder charge on Warriors centre Blake Ayshford, with a guilty verdict set to rub him out for two weeks.
Wallace blindsided Ayshford as he attempted to take a pass in the last minute of the first half, putting a stop to a promising attacking movement in his side’s big loss to the Warriors.
Particularly when it’s slowed down on video, the hit looks bad but both Finch and former Blues star Braith Anasta offered hope to the 25-year-old should he defend the charge at the judiciary.
Speaking on Fox League’s Sunday Ticket, Anasta said Wallace had “no time” to do more than brace for contact with Ayshford, while Finch compared the incident to a Sam Burgess ‘shoulder charge’ that was cleared earlier this season.
“There’s collisions in games that you can’t avoid,” Finch said.
